Prominent local mural artist Katie O with Lucy Winters and Mark Halpin have set up Summer of Sunflowers to raise money and inspire communities to come together.

There idea is very simple – they want to have as many people as possible across Coventry growing sunflowers this summer.

Summer of sunflowers

Last year has been really difficult for so many people – children especially – and that by getting involved and planting some little seeds of hope that they can inspire a sense of community and togetherness that so many have been missing out on. Families, friendship groups, schools, clubs, even entire neighbourhoods to come together, share resources and ideas and be part of something wonderful.

Katie’s mural on O’Tooles cafe on Earlsdon Avenue North has even become a pokestop on the popular game Pokemon Go. This means that those who play the game are drawn to the location, and understand better what the piece of art is about.

Taking over a week to complete, Katie’s mural caused a major stir in the community and on social media. But it isn’t all the project is doing. Selling prints of Katie’s art work at Earlsdon Library as well as being a base for donations and collection of free seeds. They hope that everyone will be inspired to get involved.

We have an upcoming Project with Katie O and an interview with the team behind Summer of sunflowers, please come back to find out more.
