Dame Goodyvers Daye
September 10, 2023 @ 12:30 pm - 4:00 pm
Join us on the 10th of September 2023, from 12:30 p.m., as we come together for Dame Goodyvers Daye. A day that is a vibrant celebration that will take place in the heart of Coventry. Our gathering will kick off at the iconic Lady Godiva statue in Broadgate. Next, we’ll embark on a colourful procession leading to the enchanting Priory Gardens, nestled beside the historic Holy Trinity Church.
The Dame Goodyvers Daye is a cherished tradition that harkens back to the 15th Century. It’s a time when our community comes alive, forging connections between different cultures and faiths that make up modern Coventry, all while paying homage to our city’s rich Godiva Heritage.
As we gather in the tranquil Priory Gardens, we’ll have the opportunity to reflect on the legacy of each of Godiva’s Sisters. This reflection will be brought to life through captivating performances, encompassing a spectrum of music, dance, and delectable food. It’s a time to indulge your senses and immerse yourself in the cultural tapestry that defines Coventry.
To make this celebration truly special, we encourage you to bring a picnic with you. This gathering will not only honour the spirit of Coventry but also bring us together in a modern interpretation of the grand feasts of yore.
Speaking of Godiva, it’s worth noting that Coventry has its very own official Lady Godiva, none other than Pru Porretta. Her dedication to upholding the Godiva tradition is a testament to the enduring spirit of this legend.
So, mark your calendars, and join us on a day filled with festivities, culture, and community. Let’s celebrate our past and present, standing together in the vibrant tapestry of Coventry’s heritage.
